“(I Bet You) It’s Still Beautiful”

I created The Real Life Corner in 2019. If you’ve been reading with me since then, you recall that I started with many different topics. I intended the topics to be more personal with little focus on politics. But things changed…

The climate of the political landscape turned more adversarial than I ever recalled in my lifetime. I witnessed opposition from within all groups of people, either by race, religion, gender, political affiliation, age, social status and profession. But why? Hey listen. I know that America is made up of people from many different ethnicities and races, but if you look at our country by communities and neighborhoods, we have more in common regionally then we have differences. So I found myself writing about politics more than I ever imagined. Rightfully or wrongfully, I targeted Donald Chump as the instigator and perpetrator of the changing political landscape.

Fast forward to 2026. Depending on your perspective or who you ask things haven’t gotten much better since 2019. The political divide has grown wider, the cost of living has gone gotten higher and the future of the country has an air of uncertainty about it.  But don’t fret America…. All is certainly not lost.

Despite its inherent flaws the United States of America is still a beautiful country. Beautiful in its diverse geography. Beautiful in it’s proximity to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Beautiful as it shares the American continent with its Western neighbors. But you know what? You wanna know the main thing that makes the United States beautiful? We The People make this country beautiful.

I bet you that if most American citizens walked out of their front door and looked across the street, to their left, to their right, they have more in common with the people around them than the current state of politics would imply.  I bet you! I bet that if you took politics out of the equation most people would still see the United States as a place to proudly call home. Yes, it is certainly flawed. It was founded on flawed principles by flawed people with narrow viewpoints and limited understanding of the world at that time. Remember, these people “discovered” a land that was already inhabited. This prevailing attitude was not exclusive to just the Europeans. Expeditionists and explores from all over the globe were traveling around and “discovering” lands and people that they had not encountered before. And yes racism, discrimination, oppression, marginalization, gentrification, all sadly, continue to be a part of the American existence. AND WE SHOULD NOT TOLERATE ANY OF IT!

But I bet you….. If you were to travel through any of the fifty states you would find beautiful people who represent this country far better than the ones who lead this country. They may not look like you. They may not live like you. They may not pray like you. They may not love like you. But I bet they want this country to be its best just like you do.

I say that to make this point. America, we need to stop listening to the leaders at large. Put down your phones, turn off social media, turn off the news and go outside and shake your neighbor’s hand. Do something good for your community. Let’s show the rest of the world how beautiful the American citizens can be. I bet we can do it.
