“Balance Part 2”

A few months ago I wrote a post called “Balance”. When I wrote that article I had intended to focus on physical balance as at that time I noticed that little things I took for granted as far as balance goes I had to focus and concentrate on more.

For example, when walking up-and-down the steps. Typically, I would just run up-and-down. I wouldn’t have to hold on to any rails or anything. But lately I’ve noticed that occasionally I have to hold on to a rail and I have to be careful about my foot placement. Instead of being able to just walk up the steps without concern and place my feet wherever, I actually now have to place the majority of my foot on the step instead of just the ball of my foot or my toes. Otherwise I have to balance myself out and slow my peace as I go up and down the steps.

Also I notice that when changing shoes, socks and pants I used to just stand up, kick my shoes off and pull off a sock one foot at a time.  However, nowadays I have to balance myself, placing my hand on something nearby.

I can no longer take for granted how I move about in my daily routine. When I exercise or run, I have to be careful about how quickly I’m moving to my next exercise or how I position myself for my weights. I like to stretch between exercises and sometimes I have to balance myself with one hand or the other as I stretch.

So for anybody out there who is of a certain age trust me, you are not by yourselves. Putting on or taking off your shoes. Changing socks, changing the pants. Any clothing item that requires you to stand up or sit down.
We have to watch our balance. And that’s just part of it.

Balance is a good thing as I stated in the first part of this article. Be sure to read it and check out the picture that I included.
