It was hot today. The Heat had its best day of the year, causing some to rethink their opinion of The Cold. Whereas The Cold is immediate and bitter, The Heat is relentless and deliberate, smug in its presence while smirking broadly as it encourages unsuspecting people to enjoy its intoxicating warmth. And then without warning The Heat, with assistance from the Sun, intensifies and smiles confidently as more and more we bask in its presence. Vacations, beaches, pools, barbecues, cookouts, parties. And just when we think The Heat likes us it happens, the impending “hottest day of the year”, heat advisories, heat warnings, heat restrictions, closed pools and canceled outdoor activities. And its only July….
